Louise Hall Decorative.
Louise Hall background.
I originally found my love of art and interior design largely through my mother’s influence. She had many books on the subject that were stored on bookshelves in my childhood bedroom so as well as less sophisticated Secret Seven books, I found myself flicking through pages of books on Impressionists, Goya, Valasquez, Palladian architecture and French and Italian garden design.
Having studied History of Art ‘A’ level, in my gap year, I was lucky enough to live by a then long-standing Sotheby’s regional saleroom (long gone) where I worked for 6 months and subsequent university holidays in various departments from paintings to furniture to porcelain, doing whatever job was required to help the antiques expert. Although I then took the route of studying French and Italian, my interest in architecture and interiors has never waned and I have finally found myself buying and selling decorative antique furniture and garden items to clients with lovely homes all over the UK….I just took rather a long time to get there! In the late 90s, I worked at House & Garden Magazine and looked after clients in the antiques, furniture and fabric world - what fun that was!
